Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Hi Everyone!
How's Christmas? Lots of food and going-out? I have been attending a lot of gathering with friends and family members. Christmas is a good time for you to do what you normally don't have time to do. For me, it's a good time to read, to meet friends who are very busy and to talk to my chinchillas.

I guess the first reaction you have when you see the picture below is "wow~! It's cute!". Ha ha! That's why I love them so much.

When it gets cold, the 3 of them always get together like this to give each other some warmth. I feel a lot of love and care in them whenever I see them getting stacked like this. So, next time when you feel really cold sitting at home or on the street, hug your daddy and mummy to share some warmth, I'm sure you'll be warmer, and your parents will get warm in heart, too!

Beautiful Views at Ma Wan

I always say I like the environment in the school, and YES, I mean it. Just look at the picutres below, I took these pictures in an evening in November just outside the teacher's room. I'm not a very good photographer, and I did not edit the photo, the beautiful scene just comes naturally.
I appreciate the amazing combination of the setting sun, the marshmallow clouds, the changing color from blue to red, the bridge, the mountain and the good mood I have. Happiness can come in such an easy way, and it's totally free of charge. So, I can say you're very lucky to come to this school to study and have this wonderful views surrounding you.

I know there is a common saying in Chinese, "being satisfactory brings you happiness", I think it's true. We can have a lot of toys, a very big house, a maid to take care of us, a lot of pocket money to spend, a lot of good food to eat, but, money can't buy happiness. Sometimes, living in a simple life and appreciating the beautiful things around you can simply make you happy. So try it today, try to appreciate the good things around you, and you'll feel calm, joyful and satisfied.

The Beautiful Moon River

This song is my recent favorite, it's "Moon River" by Lisa Ono.

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.

Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.

This song was sung by Audrey Hepburn at her movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

I hope you enjoy the song.

About Whale Shark

Yesterday I watched a documentary from Discovery Channel, it's about moving a giant whale shark from Taiwan to Atlanta, USA. How do you move such a big fish to such a far away place within a day? The answer is obvious, it's by plane.

But moving a whale shark is not as easy as you take the airplane from Hong Kong to USA. You must keep it in a water tank, you must make sure it has enough oxygen in water to breath and make sure the water will not get too dirty that it kills the whale shark at the end of the journey.

The two whale sharks were caught by Taiwanese fishermen and, by the courtesy of the Taiwan Government, they could be transferred to Georgia Aquarium, the biggest aquarium in the world and live happily there after.

Whale shark is the biggest fish in the world. It can grow up to 45 feet long! It's an endangered species, so we must keep the ocean clean to save this beautiful animal!

What's your favorite cartoon character?

What's your favorite cartoon character? I have a lot of "favorites" but I think I like Stitch the most. The picture above shows my little Stitch working in front of my computer at home. Some of you may have noticed that I have a Stitch watch.
Except small little stuff toys, I like big plush, too! Whenever I see these walking cartoon characters, I'll rush over with my camera and take photo with them. They're very good to hug! It feels like hugging a big big stuff toy!

In that occasion I met the Teletubbies, too. The four of them are just bubbly, energetic and funny! They liked playing with me and they danced all the time, they just danced non-stop! I didn't really like Teletubbies before, but when I met them, I found them really cute and lovely!
So, what's your favorite cartoon character?

Different Airplanes

Over the last weekend, I was busy with aircrafts. On Saturday I went to Zhuhai for the aviation expo. One bad thing is that I missed the massive Airbus 380, it left on Friday afternoon after an air show. I was so disappointed, but I wasn't too unhappy because I could still see other aircrafts. Like the one on the above picture, they're the Indian Air Force, they do aerobatics. It was a good show.
On Sunday afternoon, I went to the airport to see aircrafts. I was quite excited because I saw my favorite B-KPF on the parking bay when I went to the airport. I waited until almost 6pm when it departed from Hong Kong to New York JFK Airport. You can see a mini B-KPF on my desk. It has a livery of "Asia's World City". It's the famouse Boeing 777-300ER.

On Sunday morning I visited the Sek Kong airbase. It is a military airbase so it's not easy to visit there. I went there because I went with the Hong Kong Aviation Club. Behind me you can see a small aircraft.

Is it an airline in Hong Kong?

You see, it's a small aircraft with "air Hong Kong" printed on it. You may think, "air Hong Kong"? I have never heard about it before! Well, you don't easily have a chance to take air Hong Kong, unless you're a cargo, or you're the pilot of their aircraft!
air Hong Kong is Hong Kong's only all-cargo airline (that means they only carry cargo, no passengers). It is co-owned by Cathay Pacific and DHL. It only has small aircrafts, which are all Airbus 300-600F. Its main destinations are cities in China, Southeast Asia and Japan.
I think I saw air Hong Kong this morning when I was in the school, I saw its yellow and white belly. So next time, when you look up to the sky and you see a small aircraft with a yellow and white belly, it may be our air Hong Kong.

Miss Nickie = Emily the Strange??

One day, I had a teacher telling me that I look like a character in a boutique. At that time he couldn't recall what character it was. A few days later, he told me that the girl is called Emily, and a few more days later, I had another teacher telling me that I look like Emily the Strange too.

I know about Emily the Strange long ago from a boutique store. I searched www.wikipedia.org and found out that she's a fictional counterculture character. She is a 13-year-old girl who has very pale complexion (that means her face is very white). She has black hair, and wears a black dress and black tights. Yes, she's all black.

You can also see 4 cats with Emily, they are Sabbath, Nee-Chee, Miles and Mystery. If you want to know more about Emily the Strange, you can always google it and find her comics.

Airplanes and Airport

I took these pictures in Shanghai (again). This Boeing 777-300ER is getting loaded with food at the side of its door. Airplanes are always busy at airport. They don't just rest there, they need to add more fuel for the next journey, get loaded with food and water, be cleaned up, be checked for any damage... ...

Boeing 777-300ER can fly one of the longest routes in the world, and because of the long distance it covers, it needs two BIG engines to power. Can you imagine how big the engines are? The diameter of the engines are more than 2m (taller than a door!).

I realise how similar airports can be nowadays. You see, this is Shanghai Pudong Airport, does it remind you of our Hong Kong International Airport? And guess what, Terminal 3 of Beijing International Airport looks more or less the same!

How many airlines are there? + Smile~

This is the picture I took from the Hong Kong International Airport few weeks ago. Can you tell me how many airplanes are there and how many airlines are there? Airline logos are printed mostly on the tail of an aircraft, it's like a flag flying in the wind, isn't it? Therefore the national airline, or the biggest and most important airline of a place is often called "Flag Carrier".
The picture above shows you Cathay Pacific's Airbus 340-300. How do I know the model of the aircraft? It's easy to tell. For Cathay Pacific, if you see four engines without a "goose hump" (the one with the "goose hump" is Boeing 747), that is an Airbus 340. And if you can see only 4 doors on the aircraft, instead of 5, that is Airbus 340-300 instead of Airbus 340-600.
And you can see the side cargo door is open, they need this big door to load the big cargos into the airplane.

I took this picture in Shanghai Science Museum. And it was a tank of orange fish. I happened to see one of them facing me and it looked as if it was smiling at me. Isn't it cute? I hope to see you smiling at me like this when I see you in the school.

The airport under the wing

I took this picture while I was in the flight to Shanghai weeks ago. I was sitting by the wing so I could see the operation of the wing. That night we took off using runway 07R, that means I would have Ma Wan under my feet when the airplane left Hong Kong.

Under the wing you can see some lights and a blur image of the Hong Kong International Airport. It's such a beautiful picture, although it is quite blur.

The Hong Kong International Airport is a two-runway airport, that means it has 2 runways. Usually one is for take off while another one is for landing. In most cases, all take-off and landing airplanes head to the same direction because head wind makes take off and landing easier.

The flaps are extension of the wing. They are extended during take off and landing to increase the lift while the airplane slows down. The airplane must slow down during landing because landing in high speed is very dangerous!

gut gut was sick

Gut Gut was sick last Saturday. When I groomed my chinchillas on Saturday morning, I discovered a big patch of fur lost on Gut Gut and there was little blood on the skin. I was so afraid that something very wrong happened to Gut Gut. At that time I had to go out for something so I couldn't send him to the vet immediately. After the first brief observation I found that he was still playing and eating as usual, no signs of tiredness or sickness were shown, so I wasn't too worried.

I brought him to the animal clinic in the afternoon and had a medical check. The vet said he's alright and nothing serious happened to him. Gut Gut was prescribed with some medicine and I have to put it on him 2-3 times a week.

Gut Gut is all right now, and skin is recovering very well.

The World is Just Awesome!!

Recently this video is my favorite.

Let's learn and sing this song later!

Since I was as young as you, I already liked documentaries. I like to see animals on African flatland, I like to see strange creatures deep in the sea, I like to see how a baby is developed from a single sperm and ovum... ... I think this world is just fabulous! And I want to see more about this world because it is such a big world and there are more funny things happening outside. That's why I want to travel around the world. I want to see this world first hand!

Hiking @ Chung Yeung Festival

It was Chung Yeung Festival (or the "Double Ninth Festival") yesterday, I went hiking with my 3 friends. Traditionally, the Chinese commemorate their ancestors and climb high in this festival. I don't need to commemorate my ancestors (it's just not my family practice), but I chose to climb high with my friends. It felt so good to walk in the countryside because the air is fresh and it's good to have some exercises.

We hiked from Tsuen Wan to Tai Po, along Shing Mun Reservoir, yesterday. It is the most inland area in Hong Kong so the only things we could see were trees and hills. And because of the location, trees can grow much taller here.

Now you can see how tall the trees are!

We saw some animals when we hiked yesterday, the most common was monkey, as you may know, we can find most monkeys living around Shing Mun Reservoir. You have to be careful with the monkeys, don't feed them, because they may attack you and snatch your food.

Another animal we saw was a cow. Yes, it was a REAL cow. It was calmly eating grass, and ignored our existence when we approached to take photos. I guess it just gets used to human beings and so it was not afraid of us. Again, we were very careful when getting near it, not to harm or irritate it.
After a short hike (which lasted less than 3 hours), we arrived Tai Po and went to my friend's house to have some cooking fun. It was such a happy and healthy holiday.

I'll leave Hong Kong to Shanghai today and will not be in school on Thursday and Friday. So I'll see you next Monday. : )

It's fun to visit the Science Museum!

Yesterday, I visited the Science Museum at Tsim Sha Tsui because I wanted to see the deep sea creature exhibition. It was such a great fun to visit the museum because there are lots of things to explore and see.

The deep sea creature exhibition was great, there were many specimens and photos about bizarre animals which look more like from another planet! Of course, human have not explored most of the ocean so far, so there is still chance to find more and more new creatures.

One of the exhibits is this mirror fun. We all look at the mirror everyday, but what we don't know is how illusions can be made by mirrors.

In this photo, you can see my reflection in the mirror. My friend Barry is holding a camera but you can't see him. It's a little difficult to explain what happened and why did it happen here. So I suggest you to have a look at the Science Museum yourself.

How many Miss Nickies are here? This is an easy trick done by mirrors called multiple reflection. Just two mirrors with carefully adjusted angles can create lots of images.

If you visit the museum, one of the big things that will stun you is this aircraft named Betsy. Betsy is the first aircraft of Cathay Pacific Airways and is now retired and rests forever on the ceiling of the museum. This aircraft is about 70 years old!

How Big Can an Airplane be?

Hi Students,

Have you ever thought about this question: how big can an airplane be?

Boeing 747 can accommodate 400 people at a time. And the double-deck Airbus 380 can take up 600 people (that means all P.1- P.4 students in our school can be in this airplane at the same time!)
There are some other funny looking airplanes in the world which look like whales. And this Airbus' big jet is named "Beluga" (Beluga is a white whale, in fact).

As for Boeing, this big jet is called the "Dreamlifter", it belongs to the 747 family. Some say it's a "pregnant 747", that means, she is like a mother, having a baby inside her!

Typhoooooooon~~~~~~~~

Hi all!

I hope you had a good day of rest yesterday when schools was cancelled due to Typhoon Hagupit. I could hear wind blowing all night, I hope everyone is fine.

Look at the picture I took on Tuesday, students were waiting in the canteen on 1/F. (Can you see yourself in the photo?) School finished a little early so that you all could go back home safely.
The bus passed Ting Kau. And I took this picture on Tuesday when I left school, can you see the red turbojets? They are all haven here so that they will not be blown away. I took this picture for my daddy because my daddy is a captain of these turbojets. (Yes, and I am so proud of my daddy, he knows everything about sailing!)
He was not on duty on Tuesday and he had a day off yesterday at home, so we talked about the typhoon, water current and the haven. He taught me a lot about the weather system, too!

It's airplane again

I know some of you are not interested in aircraft, but I believe some of you do like Hello Kitty. So, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Eva Air's Hello Kitty livery. This aircraft comes to HK pretty often, so it is easy to spot.

I would also like to present do you, a video of aircrafts approaching Kai Tak Airport. Kai Tak Airport was Hong Kong's old airport and was closed in 6th July, 1998, followed by the opening of the Hong Kong International Airport at Chak Lap Kok. So I am sure even a P.6 student in our school has no idea what Kai Tak is.

Kai Tak Airport was famous because it was very close to residential buildings, so, in the old days, you could see aircrafts flying above your head very closely! (Yes! VERY closely!)

I hugged a dolphin~!

Now I finally have time and energy to write this blog. Yes, I was hugging a dolphin in Ocean Park. it was my birthday this year and I decided to give myself a dolphin encounter as a birthday gift. This dolphin is Pinky, she was born in Ocean Park. She is 11 years old and still living happily and healthily.
I really like spending some time with dolphins because I believe they are intelligent animals and they have emotions and affection. I hopefully look forward to swimming with dolphins!

This picture was taken in October last year in Okinawa, Japan. In this ocean park you can see lots of different dolphins. I was so close that I could actually touch them! (but I didn't because I know my hands were not clean and I didn't want the dolphin to get infected by the germs staying on my hand.)

Are You Ready to Jump?

I like taking nice photos, one of the kinds of photos I like to take is the "Jump Photo". I like traveling to different places, whenever I am out of Hong Kong, I'll take lots of pictures, and "Jump Photo" is a must.

This is my jump in Shanghai. My knee was still under recovery but I insisted jumping because I was too excited about my happy trip in Shanghai. The results? I needed to see the Chinese doctor more when I came back to Hong Kong.
This is the jump I did last Saturday at Dai Mei Duk. I cycled with my best friend Barry and I jumped again on the long dam. I used to dance a lot so I like my artistic jumps. When I hurt my knee in Feburay this year, I stopped my dance but I still like doing these jumps.

Sometimes I jump with friends too! In the picture you can see my best friend Barry, we started this "Jump Photo" series 3 years ago when we went backpacking to Inner Mongolia together. I believe there is some psychic bond between good friends. There was no rehearsal about how we did this jump in this photo, but we happened to jump the same way!
I am now doing my jump series collections and truly hope I can have YOU in my "Jump Photo" series!

I have control

Dear Students,

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

I was so so so excited, because I had my first helicopter experience yesterday. Yes, I was actually flying a helicopter with my teacher. My excitement lasted for one whole day, and even now when I think of it, I still feel excited!

The helicopter I flew was R22, registration number B-HJN, but when we called the air traffic control, we didn't say "B H J N", we said "Bravo Hotel Juliet November" to avoid confusion from pronunciation.

You see the helicopter flying? This is the one I flew yesterday. It is a really light helicopter.
My teacher, Mr. Kenny, was a good teacher and he told me how to control a helicopter. There are 3 things to control, the pedal, the cyclic stick and the collective pitch. So co-ordination is important because your left hand, right hand and two legs can be moving at different directions and magnitude at the same time!

The following is the flight path I had yesterday, we departed from Kai Tak, exited at Lei Yue Mun Channel, passed Junk Bay and made a turn when we reached Sai Kung. We were at about 1,000 feet high, although the visibility was quite poor these days, I managed to recognise many landscapes in Hong Kong. The flight was quite smooth except some turbulence at the leeward of hill.

I was flying with Mr. Kenny and when he wanted to let me control the helicopter, he would say, "You have control". When I heard it, I had to first grip the control, then say, "I have control", Mr. Kenny will let me drive the helicopter.

I am still very happy and excited about the helicopter flying experience, looking forward to flying again soon!

What are you reading recently?

One of my habits / hobbies is bringing books from the library to home. Yesterday, I went to the public library after school and was quite happy to see some new books on the shelf. I borrowed 3 books from the library and one of them is this book about Boeing 777. It tells you the history of modern airplanes and the building process of a big Boeing 777.

In the first post, I told you about my 3 chinchillas. This photo shows all 3 of them. They look alike so it is very difficult to tell who is who.

I like airplane

Dear Students,

I would like to share my love with you here, you can always see it in the school, yes, it is airplane.
Yesterday I went to see aircrafts after school. I like seeing aircrafts in the airport, I like seeing them taking off and landing.

This picture was taken in August when I went to see the aircrafts with my cousin. He took many good photos that day.

This is a Boeing 747-400, one of the biggest aircrafts in the world. And this airline is Cathay Pacific, the biggest airline in Hong Kong. I think some of you had taken their flights before. So, I am very happy to teach in this school because I can see "my love" everyday. I just have to look up to the sky and I can see them!

By the way, if you need to come to the staff room and look for me, you can recognize my seat by this aircraft model. I like the look of this aircraft, I think it is very beautiful. This is a Boeing 777-300ER, one of the latest aircrafts in the world.

Hello Everyone! Warm regards from Gut Gut

So, this is my first blog here. I wish you will enjoy my blog here (and I wish I update this blog often =p ).

This is my pet, he is a chinchilla. His name is Gut Gut, he is 5 years old. I got him from the SPCA 3 years ago, together with another two chinchillas. I adpoted all three of them because they are in one family and I didn't want to separate them.

Gut Gut is the big brother of the family, he has big ears and he likes grooming his two younger members.

I need to clean their cage every morning before coming to the school, so I have to wake up early. I'm OK with it because I see it as a responsibility to animals. If you keep animals, you must give them enough care and love, this is a commitment.

You see, he was sleeping in daytime, they are nocturnal animals, that means they are active at night and sleep at day.

During winter, the 3 chinchillas will hug each other to sleep because it is warmer.

Do you have a pet? What is your pet? Please write to me about your pet, you can also post your pet's photos to me.
